Research & risk boundary

Market intelligence, not a trading instruction.

BasisEdge provides sourced commodity information, transparent calculations, and impersonal market analysis. The reader decides what, if anything, to do with that information.

What we provide

  • Source-linked commodity data and freshness information.
  • Documented calculations, spreads, margins, and market context.
  • Editorial research that distinguishes evidence from interpretation.
  • In the current beta, a selected market portal with governed observations and research status.

What we do not provide

  • Personalized buy, sell, hold, hedge, procurement, production, financing, allocation, or operating recommendations.
  • Brokerage, order routing, trade execution, or custody.
  • Financial, investment, legal, tax, or fiduciary services.
  • An assessment of a reader's holdings, finances, suitability, or risk tolerance.

Technical publication policy

  • Observed data, calculated measures, reported context, and editorial interpretation remain separate evidence classes.
  • Inputs must carry source identity, observation and retrieval dates, units, provenance, usage rights, and a quality decision.
  • Calculations use documented formulas and accepted inputs. A language model cannot promote a held source or override a failed gate.
  • Stale, unsupported, mis-scaled, or rights-restricted inputs are held or omitted rather than silently replaced.
  • Publication uses a frozen evidence packet and is followed by checks of the rendered page, archive, and delivery state.

Data and model limitations

Sources can be delayed, revised, incomplete, inaccessible, or wrong. Exchange, options, volume, position, physical-bid, survey, satellite, weather, trade and manual-report data may use different clocks and coverage. Models simplify real markets and may omit local conditions, liquidity, transaction costs, taxes, contract terms, basis risk or events not yet present in the evidence.

Configured, not personalized

Users may configure desks, regions, units, language, cadence, permitted sources, report modules, and presentation. BasisEdge does not adapt research to a user's holdings, accounts, financial capacity, risk tolerance, intended transactions, or private operating plans. In the current beta, selecting a market controls portal access only; it does not personalize research or activate a delivery channel.

Future user-connected sources

Private feeds, BYOK connections, user-selected context and user-provided credentials are not enabled in portal beta. Any future owner-scoped connection would require rights, retention, security, and output review. A working key would not grant BasisEdge redistribution rights, trading authority, or permission to prescribe a financial, hedging, procurement, production, financing, capital-allocation, or operating action.

Source-specific controls

  • Official releases may remain valid when calendar-old if they are still the latest scheduled publication; the release period is shown separately from retrieval time.
  • Manual bulletins and exports require original-file retention, provenance checks and explicit desk ownership before use.
  • Delayed or test-only market feeds cannot be presented as real-time exchange data, and restricted benchmarks cannot be promoted into shared subscriber products without suitable rights.
  • Reported news and user-added context may explain a narrative but cannot silently replace missing core market evidence.
  • Translated values preserve the source number and unit; local-unit conversions are labeled and never overwrite the original observation.

Full disclosure: BasisEdge publishes impersonal, AI-assisted commodity research. Its production policy separates observed data, calculated measures, reported context, and editorial interpretation. Inputs are gated for source identity, provenance, observation date, freshness, units, usage rights, and quality before publication; failed, stale, or unsupported inputs are held or omitted rather than silently substituted. Calculations depend on documented formulas and accepted inputs. Automated and human checks reduce but do not eliminate error, and data or analysis may be delayed, revised, incomplete, or wrong. Private uploads, user-added sources, and BYOK connections remain owner-scoped and do not enter shared products without separate permission and applicable usage rights. Owner-scoped output may differ because its admitted evidence differs, but it remains impersonal research: it does not assess suitability or prescribe an investment, trade, hedge, procurement, production, financing, capital-allocation, or other operating action. BasisEdge does not provide legal, tax, fiduciary, or brokerage services and does not execute trades. Futures and options involve substantial risk of loss.

Service status: BasisEdge is not registered as a commodity trading advisor, broker, futures commission merchant, or investment adviser and does not provide those services. Commodity futures and options involve substantial risk of loss and are not appropriate for everyone. BasisEdge does not guarantee accuracy, completeness, timeliness, market outcomes, or future performance.
